Reverse osmosis plants are used for treatment of saline water to produce pure water. This is also known as desalination. The phenomena of reverse osmosis is passage of liquid from high salt concentration to low salt concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. The passage of liquid encompasses factors like molecular size and diffusibility coefficients. Low salinity, brackish & sea waters are made sweet by the plants.
